The transmission of genetic information contained in chromosomes is a complex process, involving:

• replication of the DNA, (including
  • DNA synthesis at replication forks,
  • initiation of DNA replication at origins of replication,
  • coordination of origin activity with the cell cycle,
  • termination of DNA synthesis);
• special DNA synthesis at telomeres;
• functioning of centromeres in segregation of chromosomes;
• the replication of organelle DNA and its segregation;
• the imposition of DNA modification patterns on daughter DNAs.

The expression of that information also involves several processes.
